Leave purchase
You can buy up to 5 extra days of leave, depending on your length of service and working pattern. Since your annual leave increases each year, the number of additional days you can buy decreases - capped at a maximum of 30 days total.
- example: - if you have 27 days of leave (after 2 years of service), you can buy up to 3 more days
- managed through salary sacrifice - you give up part of your salary in exchange for extra leave
- cost - each additional day costs 1/260th of your annual salary and is deducted from your gross salary, which may reduce your income tax and National Insurance contributions
- payment schedule - the cost is spread across the remaining months of the year, for example if you buy 5 days in April, payments will be deducted from April to December
- different work patterns - purchased leave is prorated, for example, if you work 4 days a week (20 days leave), your maximum entitlement is 24 days, so you can buy up to 4 extra days
